INTRODUCTION Our 2023 Learning & Development Catalogue is an extension of the 2022-2025 Leadership Learning and Development Strategy which is a fundamental pillar of the Human Resources Strategic Plan . This strategy supports the goal of building an innovative values-based culture and enabling employees to grow and advance in the City. STAFFTRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT POLICY 30 . 07 Our Staff and Development Policy 30.07 is a key initiative that the Human Resources Department is proud to offer to support our employee’s learning and development. Please contact your Human Resources business partner with any questions.

One-Off Employee-Driven Training or Development Courses Employees are encouraged to seek out their own training or development courses that support their current responsibilities and potential future advancement. Here are the steps an employee will follow after identifying a training or development course: • Employee discusses training or development opportunity with Department Head to ensure it aligns with their current responsibilities. • Employee completes the online Staff Training Request Form to collect both Department Head’s and Human Resources approval. • Human Resources representative contacts employee to assist in payment process of course registration. Employee Driven Multi-Course or Program Education Employees that are interested in pursuing further education through a program (certificate, diploma, degree, etc.) that align to their performance plan have the potential to participate in this cost-sharing opportunity. Here are the steps an employee will follow after identifying a multi-course or program education: • Employee discusses multi-course or program education opportunity with their immediate supervisor and Department Head to ensure it aligns with their performance plan. • Employee completes the online Expression of Interest Form to collect both Department Head’s and Human Resources approval. • Human Resources representative contacts employee with a contract outlining the cost share and repayment schedule for employees that voluntarily leave employment. • Employee completes the online Staff Training Request Form to register for each course of their program.

SFU Beedie’s DIAL Initiative has been developed in close collaboration with industry partners to build capacity within organizations to create systems change solutions. Participating will give you a better understanding of yourself, the organization and your customers so you deliver value and improve their experience while strengthening the corporate culture. DIAL features two programs that are custom designed for working professionals: Digital Transformation Management (DTM) For early to mid-career individuals to develop a digital innovation mindset with the skills and capabilities to apply them into action. Participants will gain tips to engage with customers effectively, learn how to identify problems and choose solutions and develop consulting, collaboration and mapping skills to visualize and create business solutions designs. Digital Transformation Leadership (DTL) Ideal for middle to senior-level individuals and leaders who drive digital transformation decisions and need a roadmap they can apply to the organization. Participants will develop an awareness of digital capabilities and the skills to ideate by using their work as case studies to implement a digital product or service transformation.

Civic Governance and Innovation Certificate Program Designed for employees of municipal and regional governments in BC, the 18-credit Civic Governance and Innovation (CGI) certificate program offered by the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV), consists of six courses that examine dimensions of political culture, innovation, and best practices in local governance. The courses are taught by sector leaders and innovators and use case study analysis and applied projects to analyze how local governments can pursue innovation and risk-taking. The Civic Governance and Innovation certificate is 16-month in duration and is completed in a part-time capacity. Multiple course sections are offered throughout the year and scheduled during evenings and weekends to accommodate working professionals.

Courageous Questioning in Crucial Conversations Courageous questioning connects, engages, strengthens, and deepens our interactions. A bold, curious and well-timed question is the cornerstone to building stronger relationships and shifting from confrontation to collaboration.

Learning objective include:

• Defining the terms “Question” and “Answer”

• Understanding what effective questioning requires and why • Asking the right question at the right time for the right reason

• Applying four key questioning techniques

Negotiating with Empathy In our homes and in our workplace, difficult conversations are required constantly, taking our time, energy, and resources. This interactive session focuses on managing difficult interactions while maintaining your well-being. Special attention is given to building your capacity to self-regulate, address challenging conversations head on, and achieve results while preserving relationships. What Does it Mean to Be An Ally?

Diversity and Inclusion is present in our everyday lives – and we can choose to be allies by actively learning and supporting marginalized groups. Alden Habacon from Inclusive Excellence Strategy Solutions will be facilitating an interactive virtual training session that will cover five key traits of an ally supported by strategies around disrupting non-inclusive behaviour and language. After completing this training, you will receive a “How To Be An Ally Tip Sheet” from City of Maple Ridge’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee as part of the launch of our Safe Spaces Campaign.

How to Be an Active Bystander

Indigenous Cultural Advocacy and Allyship

Allies that are prepared to respond and disrupt the impact of non-inclusive language and behaviour are called “Active Bystanders”. This interactive training session is focused on empowering participants to be active bystanders to create safer environments for all individuals.

In honour of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, the City of Maple Ridge is humbled to have Len Pierre offer Indigenous Cultural Advocacy and Allyship training.

This session will cover specific concepts, including:

• Distinguishing the context for Indigenous allyship from other forms of allyship

This session will provide specific strategies, including:

• Mobilizing justice and action oriented responses

• How to overcome fear of retaliation or embarrassment;

• Discerning contemporary issues within the term ally as it relates to Reconciliation today

• Questions to ask when considering intervention;

• Reframing intervention as personal, caring, or non-critical; • Group intervention after repeated pattern of inappropriate behaviour.

Esri Academy

Esri training options support GIS practitioners, non-GIS professionals, and anyone who needs to use the ArcGIS platform to support their daily workflows, enhance projects with geographic context, and create information that leads to better decision-making. Staff can access interactive, self-paced courses to use ArcGIS Online, Create Storymaps, Create Online Webmaps, Complete Data Collection in the Field, carry out Asset/Data Maintenance, Run Analysis, Create Surveys and more.
