In this dynamic acting course, students will develop a variety of skills to pursue performing arts for the stage and screen. Learn to bring characters to life through scripts, stage directing and ensemble camaraderie! Have you ever wanted to try creative writing? Flex your fiction writing skills and explore the world of prose in this inclusive and fun class for adult writers. Students study the basic techniques of fiction, study samples from talented authors, and work towards creating a short story piece. Students will be required to bring a laptop and will workshop pieces in class with peers. Workshopping is a fundamental tool of creative writing and participation is required. INSTRUCTOR: SAM JUDD MEMORY TO MEMOIR: INTRODUCTION TO WRITING FROM LIFE Age: 18Y+ Learn how to transform life experiences into great stories from Artist in Residence, and Emily Carr instructor, Colleen Brown. Starting with simple anecdotes, craft each of your experiences into a compelling story and learn techniques such as point of-view, pacing and showing not telling. Using a reading method that gives writers a new way to experience their work from the reader’s perspective, you will learn the skills professional writers use to get a fresh perspective on their own work and discuss writing with peers. Unwind your afternoon with a calming cup crafted from clay! Learn and practice fundamental techniques on and off the wheel to create functional and decorative vessels for your home. Bring your ideas into the 3D realm with support from a professional artist. Please note: Clay must be purchased for an additional fee (price varies according to clay, including glazing and firing). Creativity isn’t just talent—it’s a skill you can learn and strengthen! In this course, you’ll explore techniques used by artists and innovators to spark imagination and apply innovative problem-solving techniques to your creative practice. Guided by Artist in Residence, and Emily Carr instructor, Colleen Brown, projects will focus on developing writing and visual art techniques to gain skills in writing and sketching for ideas, conceiving quick exercises to jumpstart originality, and utilizing creative collaboration and editing to build on your creative inspirations.
