DRAWING AND PAINTING FOR YOUTH Age: 10Y-15Y

STORYTELLING 101 Age: 9Y-12Y Get your creativity flowing by playing, writing, and drawing together! Discover fun techniques professional storytellers use to generate new ideas and create scenes and characters in their work. Create your own stories and learn how writers and artists discuss their work with each other to help projects grow. In this course you will learn quick writing and drawing exercises to jumpstart originality, new creative collaboration games and methods to discuss your ideas with others and build on your creative inspirations.

Develop your art skills in this creative drawing and painting program for young artists. Explore drawing, painting, mixed media and collage techniques using graphite, charcoal, tempera, watercolour, colour pencils, chalk and oil pastels and ink on paper. The instructor will demonstrate various styles and techniques and introduce art vocabulary and art history. Students are encouraged to experiment and make their own artistic choices using composition, shape and colour. No experience required.

Gain confidence in working with color. Guided by Artist in Residence, and Emily Carr instructor, Colleen Brown, you will engage in dynamic color projects designed to expand your use of color, learn how to mix and create palettes, and explore how color perception shapes emotional and symbolic meaning in artworks—as well as how designers use color to create psychological impact.

Interested in creative writing? Learn the fundamentals of storytelling in this fun-filled class! Students will learn basic techniques in prose and poetry, and learn the essential building blocks of grammar, character, and plot. Students work on various small creative writing pieces including poems and short stories and will be required to bring a notebook to class. INSTRUCTOR: SAM JUDD

MAKE YOUR OWN ART BOOK Age: 8Y-12Y Explore new ways of making and seeing in this fun filled art class. Students will be introduced to imaginative projects through a wide range of media such as drawing, painting, and collaging. By the end of the last class students will be able to take home their special customized portfolio books, which can be shown off to family and friends. INSTRUCTOR: PAIGE ALLAN NEW!

This class teaches the basics of creative writing in an inclusive and low-pressure environment for teens. Students will work on fiction-writing, poetry, and exploring the mechanics of storytelling by workshopping material with their peers in a guided session.
