Drawing and Painting Age: 7Y-10Y

Thinking Nature Through Archive - Interdisciplinary Art Age: 9Y-14Y Students in these classes will be encouraged to think about their surroundings through connecting with objects in four separate stages - Collect, Compose, Collaborate and Connect. Over the span of this course, students will work with text, colour and photography to begin telling stories through engagement with various objects. These classes will take an interdisciplinary arts approach, using both traditional mediums as well as new media (computers) to explore different ways of building an archive. Instructor Xinyue Liu aims to foster children with a sense of preservation towards nature. Instructor: Xinyue Liu Location: The ACT Fee: $130 | Sessions: 8 W 4:00PM-5:30PM Jan 12-Mar 2 #33647 Using Japanese Shibori resist dyeing techniques and a variety of printing methods, students will learn how to dye and print on fabric creating their own unique designs. Children explore different ways of folding, pleating, wrapping, tying, and clamping fabrics to produce colourful patterns. They also learn about printing methods by making their own stamps and layering on to their dyed fabrics, creating exciting results. Experiment on paper, yardage and on a few different fabric items such as bandanas, t-shirts, and bags. No previous experience necessary, all supplies included. In these sessions, students will work with pencil and charcoal mediums, tempera and watercolour paints, coloured pencils, chalk and oil pastels, as well as pen and ink on various paper types. Some mixed-media and collage techniques will be explored. Detailed demonstrations and step-by-step instructions from teacher Oksana Slonevskaya will guide students to try various styles and techniques of art creation. Students will learn some art vocabulary, art history, and will be encouraged to experiment and make their own choices on composition, shape, and colour. Inspirational ideas will be based on world renowned artists! No previous experience, required (open to all levels). No class Family Day Monday, February 21. Students will write scripts, design and develop characters, plots, settings, conflicts and climax resolutions. They will also study composition for panels, draw characters, settings, sketch actions and dialogues. Instructor Netsanet Tsegaye will also teach students about calligraphy, typefaces and sound effects for speech balloons and captions. All levels of art students are encouraged to attend! Three dimensional forms will be explored as students observe sculptures and the built environment. They will experiment with mixed media drawings and paintings and examine material, shape, space, texture and colour. Instructor Netsanet Tsegaye will engage students to apply personal inspirations and influences on their art creation process as they develop skills and build confidence.
