AWARENESS OF MENTAL HEALTH

Join the Canadian Mental Health Associa- tion during Mental Health Week to raise awareness and gain an understanding sur- round mental health. This workshop is de- signed to help build comfort in talking about mental health and mental illness, and learn how to respond in a supportive way to coworkers who may be experienc- ing a mental illness. This workshop begins by building an un- derstanding of the continuum of mental, the various mental health issues, and the risk and protective factors that influence our current state of mental health. It uses personal stories to help build awareness of what it is like to experience mental ill- nesses like anxiety disorders or depres- sion at work. This workshop often includes an interview with a guest speaker to share their experience of living nd working with a mental illness. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions, and will work through case studies that allow them to practice having difficult conversations. Participants will leave the session with new tools and a list of resources available to help support their mental health.

3 WAYS TO MAINTAIN YOUR PHYSICAL AND MENTAL WELL- BEING

1. KEEP YOUR HEART RATE UP Staying active is as good for the brain as it is for the body. Regular exercise or activity can have a major impact on your mental and emotional health, relieve stress, improve memory, and help you sleep better. 2. APPEAL TO YOUR SENSES Does listening to an uplifting song make you feel calm? Does squeezing a stress ball help you feel centred? What about taking a walk in nature and enjoying the sights and sounds of the trees? Every- one responds to sensory input a little differently, so experiment to find what works best for you. 3. EAT FOODS THAT BOOST YOUR BRAIN FUNC- TIONS What do Chia seeds, avocados, blueberries, sunflow- er seeds, celery all have in common? They all help with our cognitive functions. Make mindful decisions on the food you are putting into your bodies. You are what you eat!
