YEAR IN REVIEW PHOTOS

WELCOME TO THE ‘YEAR IN PHOTOS’ FEATURE FOR 2018

The following pages contain images of the events, the people and the places that make Maple Ridge special and helped define 2018. We start out with an event that was held on January 27, 2018. This ‘Hockey Day in Maple Ridge’ event marked the 50th Anniversary of the Ridge Meadows Minor Hockey Association (RMMHA). The 1967-68 hockey season was the birth of hockey in Maple Ridge and the incredible volunteers of the RMMHA have helped thousands of area youth enjoy the sport and eight association members have gone on to play in the NHL. As part of the 50th Anniversary celebration the City renamed the section of road that leads to the Planet Ice facility as ‘Jim Robson Way’ honouring the BC Hall of Fame and NHL Hall of Fame broadcaster Jim Robson. Jim was the voice of the Canucks and a generation of kids grew up

listening to his broadcasts and dreaming their NHL dreams. Jim grew up in Maple Ridge and had the opportunity to visit with old friends as part of the street dedication ceremony. Later, Jim went on to drop the puck at the Ridge Meadows Flames game along with RMMHA alumni and Vancouver Canuck great Brendan Morrison. This was such an amazing start to 2018 and speaks to Maple Ridge’s strong community connections and volunteerism.
