Golfing One of the first European settlers, in what is now known as the City of Maple Ridge, was John McIver, a Scot who homesteaded on acreage that includes today’s Maple Ridge Golf Course. His property had a ridge topped by fine maple trees, so McIver called his farm “Maple Ridge.” The historic Maple Ridge Golf Course, which sits high above the mighty Fraser River, was established in 1926 and was one of the first golf courses built in the Fraser Valley.
