STAFF PROFILE: ARVEEN How long have you been involved with youth services? I’ve been working with Youth Services for four years now. What got you interested in working with young people in Maple Ridge? I wanted to help guide youth and create safe and welcoming spaces they can rely on. Being a young person isn’t always easy, and I know how important it is for youth to have positive role models and places where they can be themselves. A little bit of support and encouragement can go a long way. What inspires you about the youth you work with? Their passion, resilience, and potential. I’m always amazed by how they pursue and strive for things that matter to them, even amongst setbacks. That kind of energy is something to be proud of, and it will make them into the leaders of tomorrow we need. What’s your passion and how do you bring it to work? I’m passionate about supporting people that need it most. I don’t think anyone should be made to feel overlooked or left out, so I try to approach my work with willingness to actively listen and learn, and adapt The youth of Maple Ridge have taught me to slow down and find light in the little and simple things. Approaching situations with curiosity, creativity, and a sense of humour, they’ve shown me how to make challenges feel a little more manageable. If you could give one piece of advice to emerging adults and youth, what would it be? Keep trying and pushing forward. Your path is yours, and with time and patience, you can surely achieve all you set out to do. to each individual in a way that lets them know they are valued and included. What’s something the youth of Maple Ridge taught you?
