Summer Program Guide 2019
CHILD & YOUTH
YOUTH FUTURES This isn't your typical leadership program. Youth Futures participants make a difference in Maple Ridge by volunteering in a variety of environments (like in children’s summer recreation programs and City events) and participate in weekly classroom discussions that will unpack your unique brand of leadership. Build your resume of experience, find connections with your community and create relationships with fellow youth leaders. You are the future of Maple Ridge, so let's amplify your voice! REGISTER Junior & Seniors - Call 604-467-7422 or online at mapleridge.ca/1484 (#5493) Alumni - Participants are selected through an interview process. Submit a resume and cover letter by June 1 to Jen Baillie at jbaillie@mapleridge.ca. MAKE AN IMPACT

TROY PETERSON
HOWDIDYOUGET INVOLVED INYOUTH FUTURES? I was 13 years old when I first entered the program. Though it wasn’t something that I originally thought to attend, I became hooked after the first week and it became my stepping stone to getting a job with the City of Maple Ridge. WHAT'S HAPPENING IN YOUR LIFE NOW? I am a business-minded individual finishing my Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management and Accounting while working with the City of Maple Ridge's Special Events and Volunteers Office. Volunteering has become a large part of who I am today.
WHAT’S YOUR FONDEST MEMORY? It would have to be getting to see the impact that the program itself has on the participants in the program and on the other volunteers. You have the ability to play a role in someone else’s life and possibly have a large impact on them. HOWHAS THE PROGRAM SHAPEWHO YOU ARE? Youth Futures prepared me to work with a large variety of different leadership styles and to find a balance while working with different personality types. In order to be an effective team you must leverage the variety of different skills everyone can bring to the table, not just your own.
