Shibori - Stamp Making and Fabric Printing (Adult) Age: 16Y+

Whether you are a beginner or looking to grow your existing skill set, this is the pottery class for you! Enjoy plenty of creative,muddy fun while learning to make mugs, bowls and other unique clay creations. Our experienced, professional instructors will lead you through techniques in handbuilding and wheel throwing. With a maximum of 8 students, you’ll have room to learn safely, socially distanced. In this 4-week program, participants will focus on the creative process of surface design, create patterns based on personal inspirations, make their own stamps and explore different ways to print on fabric. Instructor will show several ways in which stamps can be made and teach basic principles for a good quality printing. Participants will work on printing a large canvas tote-bag. If you have something of your own you would like to print, ask instructor on first day of class. This program is a great add on if you have taken the Shibori course, as both can be combined and produce beautiful results. This class is designed for students with prior clay throwing experience. Techniques covered will include learning to make a teapot body with matching lid, spouts, handles, and how to assemble a teapot. This will be a challenging workshop, as students must figure out how to put together a teapot of perfect proportions, with a spout that pours without dribbling. Bring your idea sketches or printed inspiration photos to class, and Clive will help you turn them into 3D forms. Think of your teapot as both functional and a visual work of art. Teapots will be bisqued after the class. Glazing will need to occur during a regularly scheduled Open Studio class. Students will be introduced to techniques like slab work, coil work, and pinch work. Using these techniques, along with your imagination and creativity, students will create their own tile mural/ wall hangings which will be then glazed and fired. No previous experience working with clay is required. Tied long hair and closed- toed shoes are recommended in the studio. Students can bring their own apron if they wish. Clay will need to be purchased through our website, instructions will be sent to students. This eight week course will focus on developing your creativity in exploring wheel throwing, hand building, and surface treatments through experimentation in the medium. Recommended for students who have taken at least one multi- week ceramics class previously and feel confident in their skills. Techniques include different ways of folding, pleating, wrapping, tying and clamping the fabric before dyeing it, as ways to produce beautiful unique designs.
