PRC Fall 2020 Program Guide
MEET SOPHIE CHILDREN'S STAFF
What’s your passion and how do you bring it to work? I love to play! I feel as if I’m at my best when I am outside being active, whether it is hiking, skiing, kayaking, swimming or whatever form of play! I feel if I can teach children how important it is to be active and how to take advantage of a sunny day, then I have donemy job. What’s something the children of Maple Ridge have taught you? To make the most of everyday. There are only so many days of summer camp, or so many days of AKC. You have to appreciate the people that you are with and opportunities you have. They have taught me that it is okay to make mistakes, and that you can’t let the little things ruin your fun day. If you could give one piece of advice to someone wanting to work in this field, what would it be? Put your best foot forward, children look up to you and see you as a role model. Come to each program with a positive attitude and be ready to have fun.
How long have you been involved with Children’s Recreation? I have been working with Children’s Recreation since July 2017. What got you interested in working with children in Maple Ridge? I was working in a different department within the City whenan opportunitybecameavailablewhere I couldwork in both departments. I remember my first day I worked a summer camp, I couldn’t believe that this was my job! The atmosphere was so fun and caring. I was instantly hooked! What inspires you about the children you work with? That children really do see the best in people. Children come into camps and programs with an open mind and an open heart ready to have fun. They do not judge, they are there to give a smile and make new friends.
