I Wanna Walk Age: 8Y-12Y

The I Wanna Walk program is an active program that prepares children ages 8 and up to walk to and from school safely without direct parental supervision. Participants will learn how to plan a safe route to and from school, who to go to for help along the route, what to do if approached by a stranger, pedestrian, bicycle, skateboard, and rollerblade safety. Location: Maple Ridge Leisure Centre Fee: $25 | Sessions: 1 Tu 6:30PM-8:30PM Feb 1 #33540 This fantastic, one-hour child safety program is designed to teach children what to do if they become lost or separated from their parents in a public place. The focus is on prevention and safe responses to this often common and frightening event. What a child does and how prepared they are for the situation can make the difference in their overall safety. Never Bee Lost will give young children their first lesson in personal safety and provide a basis that they can build on as they grow older and take on more responsibility. Safe Sport discusses how to be a super sport, stay safe at away games, prevent injuries, increase self-esteem, deal with sport-bullies and the health benefits of keeping active. Each class will incorporate fun quizzes, science simulations and hands-on project building. Take home projects include a pendulum art machine, illuminated painting, a cavity buster and more! Participants will build and code a cool robot that uses sensors to guide itself through obstructions! Through hands-on building, kids will learn basics of robotics including motors, controllers, sensors and algorithms. No previous experience with robotics or coding is required.
