INTRODUCTION
We heard from our employees that they want greater autonomy is selecting and pursuing training and development opportunities that relate to their current responsibilities and potential future advance- ment. Our 2022 Learning & Development Catalogue is being presented in a condensed version that focuses on three elements:

STAFF TRAININGAND DEVELOPMENT POLICY 30.07 Our Staff and Development Policy 30.07 is a key initiative that the Human Resources Department is proud to offer to support our employees learning and development. Please contact your Human Resources business partner with any questions. One-Off Employee-Driven Training or Development Courses Employees are encouraged to seek out their own training or development courses that support their current responsibilities and potential future advancement. Here are the steps an employee will follow after identifying a training or development course: • Employee discusses training or development opportunity with Department Head to ensure it aligns with their current responsibilities. • Employee completes the online Staff Training Request Form to collect both Department Head’s and Human Resources approval. • Human Resources representative contacts employee to assist in payment process of course registration. Employee Driven Multi-Course or Program Education Employees that are interested in pursuing further education through a program (certificate, diploma, degree, etc.) that align to their performance plan have the potential to participate in this cost-sharing opportunity. Here are the steps an employee will follow after identifying a multi- course or program education: • Employee discusses multi-course or program education opportunity with their immediate supervisor and Department Head to ensure it aligns with their performance plan. • Employee completes the online Expression of Interest Form to collect both Department Head’s and Human Resources approval. • Human Resources representative contacts employee with a contract outlining the cost share and repayment schedule for employees that voluntarily leave employment. • Employee completes the online Staff Training Request Form to register for each course of their program. The cost-sharing breakdown for this stream is:

Leadership Skills: Building Capacity
Conflict Management In our homes and in our workplace, difficult conversations are required constantly, taking our time, energy, and resources. This interactive session focuses on managing difficult interactions while maintaining your well-being. Special attention is given to building your capacity to self-regulate, address challenging conversations head on, and achieve results while preserving relationships. This course will help you gain a better understanding of how to manage your triggers through neuroscience- based strategies; effectively speak up and address issues to quickly diffuse defensive, positional and emotional behavior and maintain your internal resiliency for life overall. Moving from an Operational Manager to a Strategic Leader If you want to move from being a good manager to being a great manager, this seminar is for you. This certificate program is offered by BCIT and focused on developing the leadership skills of our employees. This certificate program is designed for individuals in supervisory roles or aspiring to transition to a supervisory role in the near future. Lead Yourself First JIBC will be hosting this course virtually for Supervisors. Lean Six Sigma (White Belt Certification) UBC Sauder School of Business will be delivering an online on-demand Lean Six Sigma (LSS) Course. LSS is an empirical, customer-focused practice for simplifying existing processes by eliminating waste, increasing delivery speeds, reducing costs, and improving the quality of products and services. It results in happier customers, better staff performance, and a more agile organization. This self-directed online program introduces the LSS methodology for leading process improvement projects. Mental Health Awareness Join the BC Municipal Safety Association during Mental Health Week (May 2 – 8, 2022) as they present this 4-hour workshop, which is designed to help build comfort in talking about mental health and mental illness, and learn how to respond in a supportive way to co-workers who may be experiencing a mental illness. This workshop begins by building an understanding of the continuum of mental health, the various mental health issues, and the risk and protective factors that influence our current state of mental health. It uses personal stories to help build awareness of what it is like to experience mental illnesses like anxiety disorders or depression at work. Participants will have the opportunity to
TheWorking Mind The Working Mind is an evidence-based program designed to promote mental health and reduce the stigma around mental illness in the workplace. This virtual course is designed to: • Increase your awareness of mental health; • Reduce stigma and other barriers to care in the workplace; • Encourage mental health conversations; • Strengthen your resilience in order to maintain wellness; • Help you support yourself and others The course will give you the practical knowledge you need to: • support your employees’ mental health and well-being • enable all employees to be more fully productive • ensure the workplace climate respects and involves all employees, including those with mental health problems • encourage employees to seek help for mental health problems.
