Policing is provided to citizens through local resources including first responders, serious crime investigators, traffic members, civilian staff and volunteers. The Ridge Meadows RCMP rely on the City’s contracted partner, E- COMM (9-1-1), to provide emergency call services, non-emergency reports to police and after hours contact for our citizens and five Integrated Team partners – Emergency Response Team, Police Dog Service, Collision Analysis, Homicide Investigation Team and Forensic Identification. Behind the scenes of the detachment, and less visible to citizens, are civilian staff who are responsible for providing support to the overall policing operation in a variety of roles. Often they are the front line contact for most customer related needs including police information checks, fingerprints, insurance reports, summons & subpoena delivery, false alarms and referral services. This group of staff works in both support and specialized roles that provide police the opportunity to focus on investigative work. The full Ridge Meadows RCMP detachment staffing includes 127 uniformed RCMP officers. Maple Ridge funds 101 uniformed officers (+ 10 Integrated Team members), 3 provincial members who are supported by 47.3 City civilian support staff. In 2019, the Ridge Meadows RCMP worked closely with the City on the Community Social Safety Initiative in p r nership with the City’s Bylaws Department and private security services working in the City’s core. foot and cycle patrols in the community in addition to their support around community festivals and gatherings. The Detachment was an important partner managing the impacts of the St. Anne homeless camp (see page 34). The Ridge Meadows RCMP Detachment rolled out an online reporting tool as part of a pilot program and reports crime statistics regularly to citizens on their website. In addition to the crime statistics, the Officer in Charge provides a regular ‘From the Desk’ blog and the detachment has done outstanding work with a robust social media program to engage citizens.
