2018 Fall Program Guide - Maple Ridge Parks, Recreation & Culture

NEW FINDINGS AT HANEY HOUSE MUSEUM The recent conservation work for historic Haney House Museum involved improvements on the exterior of the house including the roof, windows and doors, as well as research on wallpaper and wall surfaces for the house interior. During the course of the work more original building materials were uncovered that revealed more historically accurate details and more stories. Some highlights include: Explore the Newly Restored Haney House

FIND #1: Red stained cedar roof shingles were found in the attic. Early photographs were only in black and white, so this detail went unnoticed, however, iron oxide red staining was quite common in the late 1800’s to prolong the life of a roof.

FIND #2: The restoration of all the windows and exterior doors resulted in some interesting facts: no weight pockets nor sash pulley hardware are present in the existing double hung windows and, therefore, heritage solid brass sash stayswill be used to hold the lowerwindows open. Stormwindows were added for protection and to preserve heat inwinter; retaining original cylinder glass, a type of hand blown window glass, where possible.
