Our Indigenous Culture Maple Ridge proudly acknowledges the traditional territory of the q̓ic̓əy̓ (Katzie) and qʼʷa:n̓ƛʼən (Kwantlen) First Nations. We extend our deep respect to the diverse urban First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities enriching the Fraser Valley and Metro Vancouver. For time immemorial, Indigenous Peoples have called Maple Ridge home. Traditionally known by its Halkomelem name, Q’wa?acstan’, meaning “the place where the golden eagles are,” Maple Ridge carries a rich cultural legacy.

Each year, Maple Ridge commemorates Indigenous Peoples Day in Memorial Peace Park. This important day unfolds with rhythmic beats of drums, storytelling, vibrant dancing, arts vendors, a Bannock cook-off, children’s activities. This celebration serves to spotlight the unique

heritage, diverse cultures, and remarkable achievements of the First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples of Canada. Explore more about our Indigenous heritage and community at FRISociety.Ca
